aircpd started from an observation made in the room rather than in a market report.

Three years working alongside leadership at a major UK professional body made one thing obvious: bodies genuinely want their members to keep learning, and the tooling available to them is almost uniformly a place to type things in after the fact. Later, working on the acquisition of a compliance software business into a large learning group, the same gap showed up from the vendor side. Learning platforms are very good at recording what happens inside them, and structurally blind to everything else, which is where most professional development actually happens.

The idea behind aircpd is a simple inversion of that. Rather than asking people to come and record their learning, watch the places learning already leaves a trace: the confirmation email, the calendar entry, the certificate in the downloads folder, and assemble the record from those.

Before writing a line of code, the first work went into research: understanding how 36 professional bodies across the UK and Ireland actually define CPD, individually, and what data structure could hold all of them without a bespoke build for each. That research is the foundation everything else sits on.
